Elden Ring Nightreign: Complete Scholar's Remembrance Quest Guide & Rewards
Unlock the Scholar character in Elden Ring: Nightreign and conquer their Remembrance Quest with our detailed, step-by-step guide.
Every Tarnished who steps into the world of Elden Ring: Nightreign knows that unlocking a character is just the beginning. Each hero comes bundled with their own unique Remembrance Questβa personal story woven through multiple chapters, documented in your Journal, filled with interactions with other NPCs and specific objectives. With the release of The Forsaken Hollows expansion, two new characters have joined the fray, bringing with them two new questlines to unravel. Today, we're diving deep into the Scholar's Remembrance Quest, breaking down every single chapter and what you need to do to see this scholarly tale through to its conclusion. Ever wondered what secrets a student of the arcane must uncover in the Lands Between? Let's find out! π

Starting the Scholar's quest is straightforward, but it requires a bit of initial effort. You first need to unlock the Scholar character by defeating the first available Nightlord, Gladius. Once that's done, you can immediately begin their personal journey. The early chapters follow a familiar pattern: you simply need to complete expeditions while playing as the Scholar. It doesn't matter if you triumph or fall quickly; the goal is to accumulate enough experience to earn Memory Fragments back at the Roundtable Hold. Think of it as the Scholar getting their bearings in this dangerous new world. π
After receiving your first Memory Fragment, open your Journal and start the remembrance. Your first destination is the chapel within the Roundtable Hold (you can also find The Undertaker here).

Upon entering, turn right and examine the desk cluttered with papers. Reading the "Tear" document will give you your first personal objective. Now, you must embark on either Balancers or Dreglord expeditions (solo or co-op). Victory isn't required here! Instead, your mission is to locate a specific spot marked by an orange flag on your map. β
| Key Point | Details |
|---|---|
| Objective | Find the orange flag marker. |
| Expedition Type | Balancers or Dreglord. |
| Success Required? | No. You can die to speed things up. |
| Marker Behavior | The location changes with each new expedition. |
The marked location is dynamic, shifting with every new expedition instance. In one reported case, it led to a dungeon on the east side of the map. Inside, you need to find a room with a ladder and a hole in the floor. Descend, and you'll discover another desk with books and a key item: the Vassal's Journal. π
After retrieving the journal, finish (or fail) the expedition and return to the Roundtable Hold chapel. You'll find The Undertaker acting strangely, licking a purple substance off the wall (!). Interact with her, try to leave the room, then speak to the NPC blocking the door. Return to The Undertaker, who will thank you. Ask her for a favor, and this chapter will be complete. A bizarre encounter, for sure, but it's all part of the mystery!

The next phase is a grind: simply keep playing expeditions as the Scholar until you earn another Memory Fragment. It's a test of persistence, but necessary to progress the story.

With the new fragment, open your Journal to Chapter Five and begin the remembrance. This time, you'll need to speak with The Small Jar. This peculiar NPC will teleport you to the northern keep, a castle located in the DLC map area. Your goal is to reach the top floor. Can you navigate the treacherous architecture?
Once at the top, look for a room containing a large, icy rock. Climb the rock, then ascend to the platform above it. On one of the walls, you'll find a hole to crawl through. Go through it, interact with a locked door on the other side, and then turn aroundβyou'll be ambushed by several enemies! This is where knowing your character shines. Need combat tips? After dispatching the foes, return to the previously locked door; it will now be open. Inside, interact with a desk and then with a character trapped within a crystal in the same room. Completing this remembrance rewards you with the Cleansing Tear relicβa powerful tool for any aspiring mage.
Almost there! Once more, run expeditions with the Scholar to gather the final Memory Fragments and unlock the quest's last chapter.

For the grand finale, check your Journal one last time, start the final remembrance, and speak with The Undertaker in the chapel. She will instruct you to go to the garb room and interact with the mirror. Afterwards, return to your desk in the chapel and examine it. This triggers your ultimate personal objective: defeat Traitorous Straighness in the Dreglord expedition. This is a mandatory boss fight, so come prepared!

Vanquishing the traitor rewards you with the Headband of the Golden Ones. Return to the Roundtable Hold, have a final chat with The Undertaker, and the Scholar's Remembrance Quest will be officially complete! π
